I had been a healer for a long time, but Catherine taught me about self care and the importance of plant based nutrition. Her food tastes amazing, clean and nutritious. Even though I was a chef she taught me so much.

17 Steps To Live Your Purpose And Find Fulfillment

17 Steps To Live Your Purpose And Find Fulfillment

1. Prioritize.

If you can’t prioritize your time, then how will you be able to do something meaningful with your day? It might seem crazy, but if you want to fulfill your purpose, then you’re going to need to learn time management and how to prioritize. Living on point isn’t going to happen unless you make it happen.

2. Relationship Building.

Just because we’re living in the Digital age, doesn’t mean that relationships are superfluous. The relationships that you build are more meaningful than anything else in your life. Your car can’t hug you, and a large television can’t offer you a shoulder to cry on after a difficult day. Your friends can, though. Just consider the impact that you can have on their lives, too.

3. Give Back.

Nothing should stop you from investing in your future and yourself. However, you shouldn’t stop there. There are other angles of your life that you should pursue. One of the best ways to show gratitude is to give back and serve others.

4. Accountability.

Where would you be without accountability? You should hold yourself accountable, for both your actions and your words. When you take responsibility for your behavior, the people around you tend to do the same. You should think before you speak, and consider the potential consequences before you act.

5. Discipline.

This isn’t just for your professional life, and it should also be something you apply in your personal life. Discipline is part of becoming your whole self. It will help you avoid the wrong decision and assist you in achieving your goals.

6. Distance Yourself From Hate.

You may think your hatred is fueling you, but the only one who will get burned is you. Life is far too short to allow hate space. It will exhaust you.

7. Forgive.

You should always be quick to forgive, both others and yourself. Just because you forgive others doesn’t mean that you have to speak to them. It doesn’t mean that you are condoning their behavior. Forgiveness is an act of kindness to yourself rather than to others. It means letting go of the emotion and energy you put into hating them! Forgiving yourself means you have more energy and space for love and acceptance.

8. Family First Always.

This doesn’t have to mean your blood relations, and if there are toxic family members, you shouldn’t feel the need to embrace them. Whether your family ties are blood or water, you should always make time for them. Yes, they rely on you, and it’s important to make time for you and your interests. Just remember, they have your back.

9. Dream Chaser.

If you have a dream, then you need to chase it no matter what. The most important thing, though, is that you make sure you pursue the right ones. Will it add value to others? Or in your life? Your dreams should fall in line with your purpose.

10. Let Go.

It isn’t easy to do, but it’s important that you learn how to let go. Some things just aren’t within your control, and if you try to hold on too tight, you will just drive yourself crazy.

11. Pursue Passion.

Don’t be afraid to jump outside of your comfort zone. The world is a massive place, and in the scheme of things, you’re living a small life. That doesn’t mean that you can’t create change or make a positive impact.

12. Role Model.

Be the change. It’s an opportunity that we all have, and in every aspect of your life. To be a role model, to lead by example, you must first show consistency in your character. Actions speak much louder than any words.

13. Guardian Angel.

Stand up for the people who don’t have an equal voice. If you possess privilege, then you should do something with it. Don’t just watch, do something. Be courageous, stand up for your beliefs and allow others to have equal rights and privileges.

14. Baby Steps.

Commit to improving yourself just a little bit every single day. Think about it, and if you make a small improvement every day by the end of the year you will have made a massive leap. The only way to improve is through learning, accepting and giving feedback, and reflecting on past experiences. Then taking action on what you have learned. There is even a school of thought that thinks to really learn and grow you need to teach what you have learned.

15. No Regrets.

You probably think about the regrets you have, something you wish you hadn’t said, a date you wish you’d never gone on. What’s worse – regretting something you did or something that you didn’t do? You can change both. You can think before you speak, you can consider others before you act, and you can push yourself to act on your purpose and passion. While it’s impossible to live a life with no regrets, you can mitigate those regrets when you are mindful.

16. The Purpose.

There can be no passion without purpose and purpose is empty without passion. How can you inspire others or be an effective leader without purpose and passion? Leading a life that is driven by purpose is living a whole life and achieving fulfillment. So, if you want to be a whole and fulfilled person, you need to identify your purpose and act on it first.

17. Surround Yourself with People Who Vibrate at the Same Energy.

We have already discussed the importance of relationships. It is even more important to surround yourself with people who vibrate at the same high energy level you do. Some people will have energy which is denser than yours. This is because they are always negative. If you associate with these people long-term, then you will become more negative, and your energy field will be denser. Allow yourself to expand into your true potential by surrounding yourself with people who keep your energy buzzing.

In time, if you implement all of these steps you will hear yourself and raise your energy. You will have freedom and joy within your life and attract more of the same on a daily basis.

The Problem With Passion.

Then, there’s the passion. The problem many people face is understanding what passion really is. You may feel really passionate about something, then someone tells you that you don’t look or sound passionate and you are questioning everything.

Passion doesn’t mean that you’re bouncing around the room like Tigger. It doesn’t mean that you’re on fire, with a racing heart, sweat dripping from your brow and obsessed.

There is something deeper involved with passion, passion is long-term. It grows, and it doesn’t give up. It isn’t a phase that you’re going through that you’ll ditch when it gets boring. More importantly, we all express passion differently. So, don’t assume that your passion is false just because someone else does appear to be smoking with passion.

Passion means patience, it means you care, it means that even when there is no reward you will do it because it brings you pleasure. It means growth and it means that you’re in this for the long-term. If you have that, then you are one decision away from truly living your purpose.

Don’t Let Time Run Out

As we age, time seems to move quicker. Despite the fact we all have the same 24 hours each day. But with age comes wisdom. We Think that time is running out for us to do something that truly matters to us. So, the decision stage of this process is the most difficult. It’s when your adult brain comes in and starts to panic about it all.

The ideas you had when you were a child, they’re still there. It’s just that you let all those other voices drown it all out. Your passion, your purpose, it’s there… it’s just waiting for you to find it, and use it. The decision is choosing to do. What is the point of discovering your purpose if you aren’t prepared to act on it?

Finding Your Inner Child

So many of us have failed to grow up. What that means is that despite the fact that they carry an adult body, they are still letting everyone else tell them what to do. They wake up and go to a job that doesn’t fit. They don’t make the decisions that they really want to because they let others block their possibility of being of whole. It’s not fair, is it? Is that the life that you’ve been leading?

When you make your decision, what you are doing is removing any other option. You might have the skills to be successful in a number of industries or positions. What makes you want to finish? Not through obligation, but through want. What is standing between you and the decision to fulfill your purpose and create a whole person?

The Importance Of Purpose

So, why is purpose so important? Life should be meaningful, shouldn’t it? You invest a lot of energy into your life, imagine how much more efficient your energy usage would be if it was connecting you to your purpose and ultimately, yourself?

Unfortunately, a lot of us have been tricked into believing that a meaningful life is one that is filled with material items. Having the newest phone might be cool for a brief period in time, but it doesn’t take long for you to grow bored of it.

Sure, you’ll still be glued to social media, but the buzz wears off and you could have done the same stuff on your old phone. A meaningful life shouldn’t be stressful or demanding, it should be pleasurable. You shouldn’t feel pushed to work long hours just so you can buy a new car. Purpose means patience. Your gratification may be delayed, but it’s an important part of being whole.

A Meaningful Life

The biggest aspect of a meaningful life is how it connects to living purpose. It’s about making a positive contribution and growing both personally and spiritually. It means that you contribute to society, all while feeding your whole self and finding fulfillment. The key?
Live your best life in the now. Work outwhat is truly important to you. So, if you have always wanted to write a novel, what are you waiting for? Instead of putting it off for another just start writing!

Schedule it into your day and make time for it just like you do everything else in your life. It won’t be easy, but if it’s your purpose… you will do it!
At the end of every day, you can ask whether you lived your purpose. If your answer is no, then you can change it tomorrow. It’s a continual journey, it doesn’t stop. Your purpose is a never-ending opportunity to dig in deep and get to know yourself. In that, you will reach new heights – and more importantly, you will be working to create a whole and fulfilled person. No one wants to lead a life of regret.

Final Thoughts

So, what is the role of purpose in creating a whole and fulfilled person? It’s everything. Without purpose, you cannot create a whole and fulfilled person. Without fulfillment, there can be no true happiness.
When you hear people talking about finding their purpose and living an authentic life, that’s what they are talking about. They’re talking about creating a life where they feel fulfilled and whole. It’s nothing to turn your nose up. We should all be doing this. We should all be so focused on living authentically.
Have you discovered your purpose yet?
If not, what is stopping you? If you knew how fulfilling it could be, you wouldn’t put it off anymore. You have taken the time to read this, and now it’s time to take it a step further and identify your own purpose.
Once you have your purpose nailed down, you can take the necessary steps to line your life up with that.
Every day, almost every minute you have the opportunity to make a choice. How can you make the right decision if you don’t know what your values and purpose are? It’s all connected.
Your values dictate your purpose, and your purpose should dictate your decisions. If your decisions don’t line up with your values and purpose, then you are leading yourself away from wholeness. So, you can see just how vital purpose is in creating a whole and fulfilled person.
It’s literally the most important thing. If it’s fulfillment and wholeness that you are looking for, the first step is to discover your purpose. From there, the sky is the limit. What are you waiting for?

Living Purposely

The Best Laid Plans Of Mice and men.

Life never goes to plan, does it? It doesn’t matter how much planning you’ve done, how much preparation and thought you have put into something – there’s always a curve ball. Sooner or later we all start to wonder what our purpose is and why were born.Living purposely does not come naturally without planning and work.

Unfortunately, Life isn’t always as simple as that. In truth, the true purpose for all of us is to experience wholeness. Yet, the only way to create a whole and fulfilled person is through discovering your purpose.
For some, the belief is that their purpose is to discover happiness. Happiness isn’t life’s sole purpose, though, it’s a byproduct of living your purpose. If happiness was truly our purpose, more people would feel fulfilled, wouldn’t they?

Modern life offers so many opportunities now, and we’re more connected thanks to the internet. Yet, so many of us are still filled with disappointment and living unfulfilled lives. So, even though life is better for a lot of us, it’s not really better. Your living condition may have improved, but your needs are not really being met.

With all the improved conditions that we experience, we still face financial problems, we are still working longer hours, and we still have to balance family, work, and friends. Then, there’s the environmental problems and societal issues that we face. With so much of your happiness tied to external needs, how will you ever find happiness? You won’t.

If Joy Isn’t Your Life’s Main Aim, Then What Is?

Perhaps, it’s to experience your whole self and in that, you will find fulfillment. In life, you will experience disappointments, you will go through periods of pain, and you will have heartache and heartbreak. These experiences, though, are just tiny blips on the radar screen of your overall life’s journey. So, how can you complete yourself and find fulfillment? It means finding your purpose.

Every choice that you make is an invitation. An invitation to navigate your life in a way that honors your wants, needs, and who you are as a person. Those choices should align with your core values, and if you don’t know what those are, then it is difficult to do that.

Life is a challenge, and if you just make it up as you go and hope for the best, then you will experience more heartache than most. Your life will turn out better when you are conscious of who you are and informed.
In order to experience wholeness and fulfillment, you should feel willing to embrace new experiences and go out of your way to learn something new each day. This will encourage growth and you can evolve as a person. At a later date, you can look back and see that all of these experiences were crucial, perhaps necessary, in helping shape who you are as a person.

Finding Purpose And Fulfillment.

There are many people who are living a life of deficiency and lack. That deficiency lies in their life’s purpose. We already discussed how we live in a world of opportunity. How can you grab those opportunities if you don’t really know what it is you’re supposed to be doing?

It’s so difficult to chase your dreams and live your purpose when so many people are standing by to poo-poo them. That means that many of us are stuck in jobs that we hate because they don’t really fit who we are. We are sacrificing our fulfillment by continuing on. We are essentially throwing away our lives and in return, there is no wholeness. That all changes today. Today is your opportunity to discover your purpose.

Your purpose isn’t something that will reveal itself to you in a dream. Your purpose is easier than that. It comes down to an idea, your decisions, and your passion. Your childhood was littered with ideas, we are so imaginative and creative as children.
You probably played games with friends (or yourself) where you role-played as a parent, a police officer, an astronaut, a rock star, a cashier, even a politician. There wasn’t any role that you couldn’t play, that is… until someone stomps in and rains on your parade, telling you that you can’t be that.

We have all been there. You have a dream, whether it’s to act, write or even be a singer. You believe in that dream, wholeheartedly and then someone close to you suggests you find a future that is more attainable. J.K. Rowling went to university and completed her degree because it was what her parents wanted for her. When she started writing the first Harry Potter book she was living on public assistance or benefits as a single mom. She knew what her passion was, and despite that, she allowed the voices of others to drown out her inner voice.

Are you A Secret Whitney?

Sure, it may feel unrealistic to think that you’re going to be a singer. However, not all singers are millionaires who tour stadiums. You can fulfill that dream in the studio, on the small stage or in a wide range of different ways. The same goes for acting.
When you tell people, you want to be an actor people immediately conjure up a photo of award season and red carpets. In truth, the average annual salary for a Screen Actor’s Guild member is just over $50,000. So, you can fulfill your purpose without taking it to the dizzying heights that the people in your life are poo-pooing.
If you truly believe that you have identified your purpose, you shouldn’t let any voices drown out your inner voice.
If you want to uncover your purpose, then you must be prepared to explore those ideas from your childhood. It doesn’t matter what stage of life you are in, it’s not too late to start writing yourself a new story.
How to get started with determining your purpose
Think about what you would do with your life if you could do anything and there was no risk of failure.
What would you love to do every single day of your life?
What strengths, skills, and talents do you have that will help people?
It really doesn’t matter whether you have existing experience in the ideas you come up with. What’s important is that you know you love the sound of it. You can worry about the rest later.

Is your Attitude to Money Screwed Up?

What Do You Really Think About Money?

When it comes to defining your attitude to money, it is often hugely problematical. Money is such a wide and varied topic that you will have taught hundreds of different subconscious beliefs around it!

The majority of people when asked the question “what is the one thing you want more of in your life”? The answer would be money.

Money is being the underlying root cause for building and destroying civilizations since time began. Money has been used to kill people probably one of the most significant examples of this in the 20th century was the Biafran war. North Nigeria starved the Biafran’s into submission.

Money is merely a currency like any other. It is not a plastic card or a plastic note with metallic strips, and it’s not diamonds or pearls or precious metals.

In its purest form money is freedom. Unfortunately, this is where the problems set in and why there is such a diverse range of attitudes around cash.

Freedom is different things to different people. For some people, it means having the time to spend quality time with their families and friends. For others, it means having enough money to travel and escape their families and friends.

Lack of money causes a lot of worry and stress in most people’s lives at some point. Some people worry about basic needs such as paying the rent and security.

Wealth means different things to different people. Wealth and what it means to you also change during stages of your life. For a teenager having enough money to take their date out to a nice restaurant might epitomize wealth. In your and 20s and 30s wealth may be the ability to purchase your own house. In later life, wealth may be having enough money to live out your life.

For a lot of people fear is at the root of their actions around money. They are frightened and overwhelmed by the idea of what it takes to make dreams reality.

Other people have all the money they need and will never experience wealth and abundance. They have money and resources and material possessions. What they lack is the benevolence and gratitude to appreciate their money and share it.

Before you can achieve wealth on your terms, you need to define what wealth means to you. The primary objective is to understand that wealth is a currency and a tool. All the money on the planet will not make you wealthy per se.

The real secret to achieving abundance is to experience gratitude. All of this like most things in life is a mindset. Every day we are all faced with challenges, but genuinely appreciating the life we have will change it.

The idea of you manifesting £1 million if that is all you want will never happen. I want £1 million, or $1 million is not enough. It is essential that you envisage what you will do with that money.

What is the purpose of the million pounds? What you intend to do with the million pounds. What would you do with £1 million if you have it?

Set your Intention

The universe love specifics. It doesn’t care what you asked for. It doesn’t judge your request it just sends you what you asked for. When you’re not clear about what you want to attract in your life, you will attract a lot of surprises. What you pay the most attention to is what you will attract into your life.

The gentle on yourself around the concept of money. It is straightforward to sabotage your vibration when you are working from fear and thinking about an uncertain financial future.

I’m not a fan of “fake it until you make it.” Except, when you are thinking about abundance and wealth and bring into your life. Cherish the money you already have. Tidy your wallet or your purse and clear out all the old receipts. Take out everything in your purse that you no longer need.

Feel as though the wealth you have manifested has already come into your life. When you’re worrying about the bills dropping through your letterbox, you are inviting more bills and more expenses. This is a difficult concept to get your head around. To change the mindset from fear and worry to abundance.

You have to trust that the universe will give you everything that you need. You need to trust that the universe has the power and everything you’re going through is perfect for now.

Every morning when I wake up and every evening before I go to sleep I open my heart for source to fill me with unconditional love. I feel that love in every cell of my body. I breathe out that love back into the universe. I can feel the fluid flow of energy coming in and going out.

It is the same principle with manifesting money you need to be able to feel security that money will come in and go out.

You may think that it’s impossible for you to get rid of those negative feelings. If you continue along the journey of negative emotions, then you will attract more of the same. The law of abundance will forever elude you.

So to recap, how will you go about manifesting money.

1. Make a Detailed List of What you Want the Money for.

Write down everything you will do with that money. This includes the amount of money you need to manifest to giveaway. It may be giving money to charity or creating a charity or sending your children to school.

2. Add up the Total of Money That you Need to Cover Everything That you Need.

It doesn’t really matter how extravagant this list is. The universe really is not going to judge you if you want £10 million.

3. Letting go of limiting beliefs.

Money is not in limited supply. The age-old saying is that money cannot be created or destroyed is nonsense. Money is energy and like all energy can be expanded or contracted.

Some of the limiting beliefs around money are

  • “Money is the root of all evil.”
“No one benefits from having money.”
“I don’t deserve money, and money is for people who deserve it.”
“Wealth will never come to me.”
    “Money is a limited resource.”

To create financial abundance, you need to ditch these beliefs. I have to be fair it took me many years to overcome these beliefs. They are so deeply buried in your subconscious mind that they take some digging out. I started by having a soul blockage clearance and then by doing daily work on healing myself.

4. Believe that Money is a Positive Power for Good.

You may want to affirm the following money affirmations
“Everywhere I go I shower money and benevolence onto other people.”
“I can afford everything I want in life.”
“Every day I attract more wealth and prosperity into my life.”

6. Be grateful and appreciative for the money you do have.
If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you will know I love a gratitude journal. I write that I am appreciative of being able to have a warm and comfortable home. I appreciate a boiling hot shower in the morning. You may think I am always grateful for the money that allows me to have ………….. a gratitude journal is for you these are just some ideas for you to transform your attitude around money.

Aligning Your Career to Your Core Values.

Aligning Your Career to Your Core Values.

Aligning Your Career to Your Core Values.

Your workplace Is one of the critical areas in your life to establish balance. For no other reason, other than the fact that you spend at least 1/3 of your life there.Aligning Your Career to Your Core Values can only bring you peace and fulfillment.

When we have balance in all areas of our lives, we have a spring in our step and a sense of vitality. Unfortunately, as human beings, we make the common mistake of improving on areas where we already have abundance. For instance, if you have an excellent relationship with your family and friends. You may well put more time into those relationships. Your health may not be as balanced. You may not eat the most nutritious foods for your health.

By concentrating on one area, it is very possible that you can create the conditions to make your life even more on balance. You’re making your life out of whack. It’s only by bringing in every aspect of your life into balance you will be able to manifest everything that you need.

How Does Your Career Define You?

You are never defined by your career choices even though you spend an awful lot of time at work. Society demands we achieve a certain level of professional attainment, but it doesn’t make us the people we are.

Because our whole cultural background, at home and at school centers on the importance of having a career, we don’t always look at the aspect correctly. Your job is not a broader reflection of the person you are. It doesn’t reflect your capabilities as a human being. In short, it is a circumstance that is changeable.

Other People Want Your Career to Define You?

Whenever you are socializing with someone you have not met before quite often the second question after your name is

“What do you do?”

In a lot of cases, that question actually means – how much money do you earn? Very often the person asking these questions is merely finding a point of reference to stereotype you.

Ditch The Stereotypes.

To be happy in the workplace, you need challenges. I’m not talking about the problems that stress you out and make you ill. I am talking about the challenges that make you think and overcome obstacles and give you a sense of satisfaction. This sense of fulfillment tends to overspill to other areas of your life. You go home energized to enjoy your relaxation to be able to go to enjoy the next day.

If you bounce out of bed in the morning and can’t wait to get started then this level of energy will affect other aspects of your life. You will more likely eat a healthy breakfast. This is because you will want to give your body the best chance to do its best all day.

On the other hand, if you fall out of bed dreading another monotonous, dreary unfulfilling day, then you have little energy to spare. You are tired and drained and exhausted before you begin the day.

Our Careers Provide Us with Security and Certainty.

Our careers or rather our salary gives us a level of comfort and security because we know how much money we have to spend on bills. This influence is far more than a material effect. If we do not follow our passions will never be sure about our place in the world. Going through day after day with a predictable routine and no option to change it is tedious.

What is your Perspective?

Some people thrive on the challenge of adventure and thinking on their feet very rapidly. Other people are totally overwhelmed with this. You may be creative and feel bound by systems and logic. Understanding this will go some way to achieving balance in your career. You can read the previous articles on how to align your core values so that they work with your job.

A fulfilling career can give us higher status and more prestige and of course more money. It is possible to have all those and not have a fulfilling career. It’s what’s known as ramming a square peg into a round hole.

Power versus Force

Power always comes from within. When you are aligning yourself with your core values, you begin to shine. Other people notice this and are drawn to you automatically.

Force, on the other hand, is when people backstab their way to the top. During your working career, you will have seen people who attack everyone in the workforce. They waste time engaging in toxic gossip. They think this makes them more powerful! In fact, it makes them appear more pathetic.
They have no real power to force other people to do things apart from fear.

Force doesn’t make connections.

One of the advantages of having a fulfilling career is the connections that you make. I’m not talking about the relationships that allow you to have promotions or the links that give you the possibility of a new partial golf course. The connections which are essential involve relationships. Such as sharing a walk in the park at lunchtime. Inviting friends from work to share a drink in the pub on the way home to celebrate small successes or large ones. Or just to laugh.

Your work colleagues will not necessarily become your family, but you should have an opportunity to make profound connections. These deep connections will allow a balance to flow in many areas of your life.

When people are frustrated and angry at work, this pressure often spills out of the work environment. You take out your anger and frustration on your family because those are close to you. You may well stuff your face with sugar at the end of the day just to get an illusion of comfort

The result of this is more negativity and this, in turn, leads to more disconnection. Sometimes we actively partake in this disconnection by pushing away family and friends who are trying to help us. Sometimes we turn to outside elements such as alcohol to fulfill what we are not getting from our personal relationships.

Having a sustainable career is like any other lasting relationship in life. It requires personal growth. It demands we step outside of our comfort zone and have the courage to try things. Even if we fail, it shouldn’t send us into spiraling depression.

Failure is a part of life and an essential part of growth. We cannot grow without trying things and failing and picking ourselves up and starting again.

Plan B

Sometimes that starting again means looking once again at your personal core values and deciding are they right for now. Your core values are designed to last for life but as we move through life our perspective changes.

For instance, in my 20s my main concern was both money and traveling. Although I did travel for two years, my primary objective was money. I started with nothing. Once I was 30 I had enough money to buy a house with cash! I didn’t actually buy a house. The money itself satisfied my need for security. I could change my core values because I learned I was secure enough to make more money always.
I desired to be of service or give something back. This sense of gratitude has never left me. The desire to be of assistance has been fulfilled in many ways and is still a core value 30 years later.

From this point on I spent my life in the service industries. I would not have been happy as a banker. Being a banker may well fulfil a lot of people but it would not of fulfilled me. It was not aligned with my core values of service.

This is why you should define your own core values so you can live by them and find peace.

Inner Peace

Change your Reality be Creative

Change your Reality be Creative

Where the Attention Goes the Energy Flows

The mind, your mind likes to keep everything compartmentalized and tidy. To do this, it labels everything. Change your Reality be Creative, ditch the labels.

During this labeling process things often become negative. If you wake up with a stiff neck in the morning, your mind tells you ” that’s bad. You’re getting older”.

Your mind tends to look at the negatives and the things that can go wrong. The mind is trying to protect yourself. It rejects what is going on in the minute, this minute in favor of bringing about a better future.

Because the mind can’t appreciate the now it makes is continuously busy. It is a state of mind the Buddhists call “monkey mind.” It is the mind’s constant striving to give you an endless list of things that need solving.

There are always things to improve about our finances, our health, our career, our diet, and even our spiritual health.

You may be thinking you need to live more in the present, or you need to stop judging people or be more compassionate or more intuitive et cetera.

The spiritual seekers are not looking for a better reality, or the authentic self or the truth they are merely looking for a to-do list!

We are co-creators of our , and everything is already perfect. Why would you want a list of steps to make you feel that way more often when that situation already exists.

Nothing lasts forever.

Let’s suppose you are feeling sad or reflective. Is that so bad? What’s wrong with that. Is sadness a problem at this moment, in the moment.

Usually, there is only an idea about a problem in the moment. By thinking about is this idea a problem now it reduces the stress what is happening now. This is the opposite of adding something to an endless to-do list. It reduces the sense of overwhelm and put things more into the perspective.

There is a significant side effect from this because when we come into the present and value the present, for now, we are connecting with a sense of wonder in the world. Not only is nothing wrong present in our lives in this present second but there is also an infinite depth of richness and love we can access.

Change your Reality be Creative

This type of thinking opens our heart center. This is a connection to peace joy and satisfaction in the now.

To go back to the example of the pain in the neck. Can you feel the pain in the neck? Is the neck tight? Are the muscles in the neck tight? Is there a tenseness around the pain? You are just exploring what is already here. There is no judgment attached to this questioning. It’s not going anywhere it’s just examining what is here now!

These questions aren’t to get you anywhere but to encourage you to savor where you are now. Quite often we look at life as being difficult, or challenging or sometimes just plain impossible.

Underneath all that suffering every moment offers sensations thoughts feelings and ideas. Sights, sounds, smells, desires and longings, touch and feelings constantly bombard us amongst other things.

Yet, is not these feelings or senses that is causing us to suffer. We only experience suffering when we start to look at these feelings and judge them and begin to work out how we can make them better. It is only when we resist all of this wonder in the world that we feel we are suffering or challenged.

Most people think suffering is the result of a bad experience; it isn’t. Pain comes about by allowing our attention to focus on something that doesn’t exist. We keep picking at the scab of fantasy, which are these ideas we think a reality.

At best, they are very insignificant truths. The suffering ends when we flow our attention towards what is actually happening. What is actually happening is true at the moment. Suffering is the gap between what we think is happening and what is actually happening. If the difference between the two a small the suffering will be tiny. The gap between the two is massive the suffering can be colossal.

Perceive Your Reality in a Different Way.

Even when something terrible is happening in your life, you may not feel any suffering. For instance, when my husband was in a hospice dying, I didn’t feel any pain. You would think to watch someone you love that it would be painful, but in reality, I could not watch him suffer anymore. The pain came later when I realized the loss of his presence.

Sometimes you suffer because you are frightened of change. Once you understand this fear, the change which is happening is not so terrifying. Your happiness doesn’t depend on what is happening. All our hopes and fears and worries are tiny truths when we let them go we release the suffering.

All those hopes and fears and desires don’t nourish us. What we desire isn’t in our presence or our present. If it were, we wouldn’t be thinking about it, wishing it to happen and wanting it.

Equally our fears are not in the present we are not frightened of something that is actually happening now. We are frightened about something that may well occur or not in the future.

Rejection and desire are two mechanisms we used to increase our sufferings. We tend to see-saw between the two.

Imagine this scenario

You are at a party when you are feeling lonely and bored because the friends you came with speaking to other people. You think if only I were thinner/more interesting/ funnier et cetera, I would be more interesting.

Then you daydream about fulfilling that desire. Whether or not you achieve what you are thinking about is irrelevant because even if you do become thinner/more interesting/funnier, then you still reject what is going on in the present. You will always judge the present not to be great so you will dream up something to make things better.

In reality, you are clutching your small self, me, the ego. You are correctly not even aware this is making you feel small incomplete and unsatisfied. You can only trust what you feel when your heart center is genuinely open. When you give your attention to the reality fantasies and desires and rejections, the suffering dissolves. We become curious about the process of rejection, but it no longer hurts us because we’re not judging it if we are indeed present in the moment.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and our Sense of Fulfilment Part 2

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and our Sense of Fulfilment Part 2

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and our Sense of Fulfilment Part 2

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and our Sense of Fulfilment Part 2, is today’s post. Click here to read yesterday’s post, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and our Sense of Fulfilment Part 1.Yesterday  the earlier needs we discussed were deficiency needs. The basic needs of the pyramid need to be satisfied before you can rise to the self-fulfillment needs at the top of the pyramid. The order is not rigid you may well fulfill level 4 before you are satisfied in level 2.

The top of the pyramid was initially self-actualization. Maslow’s completed his research in the 30s and 40s. This research was before and during the Second World War. This was a very different world the world we live in today. The original pyramid had a huge impact on educational policies in the United States. What is generally forgotten is that in the 60s and 70s he developed cognitive aesthetic and transcendent needs. Although in many ways these extra levels added credibility to his work, history has overlooked them!

Level 5 Cognitive Needs

Cognitive needs are a desire to learn more, to expand and increase your knowledge. Curiosity and exploration of the first steps here you are curious about things. Once you have a curiosity, you have the potential to explore the need for up meaning in life.

Aesthetic levels.

These are a desire to enjoy beautiful things. These can be in nature or a sculpture.

Self-actualization needs

In the definition of Maslow, self-actualization is realizing your own personal potential. This, can be in any field. It can be achieved in the corporate world as easily as it can be achieved in the physical world by sportsmen. Anyone can complete the path of Self-actualisation.

Once one has achieved self-actualization according to Maslow, you have Understood the meaning in life which is essential to you.

What Really Motivates You

At the end of the day, all of Maslow’s research came down to what motivates people. For instance, when you purchase something you probably think you need it. I’m not talking about coffee in the supermarket I am talking about new shoes, or clothes or material things.

You may well think you bought the new shoes because you like the color. The chances are you make that purchase as a result of a subconscious reason. You may well be trying to outdo your neighbor across the road. There is no chance you will understand or remember the reason for that.

95% of what we think about comes from the subconscious mind. Sadly, these thoughts belong to other people, and they have planted in your mind subliminally. They have been put there by the things you heard and made assumptions about and long buried.

Buying a new pair of shoes may well remind you of a sensation you felt when you watched the film the Wizard of Oz. There is a very famous scene of a pair of red court shoes in the movie. New may not even remember seeing the film and certainly don’t remember the shoes. I will bet my last cent that you remember how you felt when you watch that film.

In 1962 Maslow wrote self-actualization could be measured by looking at a person’s “peak experiences.” Having this experience means a person sees the world as it is, they expand their divine consciousness and experience a sense of joy, bliss, wonderment, and euphoria.

What Motivates People to Achieve Self-Actualisation?

The fact is although we can all achieve this potential very few of us will do so. In 1970 Maslow estimated that 2% of people would reach the state of full potential.

Certainly, in today’s world where more and more people are waking up to their spirituality, the chances are that much more people will achieve this.

Also to some extent, the methodology of Maslow is questionable? This means he didn’t use quantifiable scientific measuring.

Maslow’s research group were 18 people, including himself. He considered that these 18 people had realized self-actualization. These people included Albert Einstein, Mahatma Gandhi, and Beethoven. Also, he only added to women in this group of 18 which is one in nine. Today that would be regarded as sexist. The women he included were Mother Teresa and Eleanor Roosevelt.

The characteristics of self-actualization

1. They look at life as it really is. They do not have a need for certainty.
2. They accept themselves fully. Because they do not judge they can also accept other people for what they are.
3. They have ditched their own ego. They are problem centered rather than ego centered.
4. They are spontaneous in everything they do rather than being rigid.
5. They are extremely creative.
6. They have a highly developed sense of humor.
7. They observed life objectively
8. They don’t conform to cultural stereotypes
9. They are capable of establishing relationships which are deeply satisfying on every level.
10. They have a tendency to put the needs of others before themselves. They are aware of the collective consciousness
11. They have a highly developed need for privacy.
12. Politically they tend to be democratic
13. They have a defined their own personal core value and tend to have strong ethics.

In today’s world, the main stumbling block would be the fact that he did not have any control group and he included himself in the group. Which is somewhat of a subjective decision.

There could be arguments to be said that poverty defines people who are self actualised. Van Gogh didn’t sell a painting in his lifetime he died in abject poverty yet his paintings are incredible.

Certainly, I have spent over seven years in India and in practical terms this hierarchy doesn’t stand up.

They tended to listen to their own inner soul rather than listening to outside influences. They avoided gameplaying and reverted to honesty. They valued hard work and took their responsibilities seriously. They took responsibilities for their own actions as a life choice.

None of them were concerned with what other people thought they were secure enough in their own ideas not to be challenged by people who thought differently. They all adhered to their own personal core values. Which allowed them to define the people that they were and live by those principles.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and our Sense of Fulfilment

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

Abraham Maslow was an early 20th century psychologist. He was important because unusually in a psychologist he looked at what drove the positive qualities in people. He was the father of what became known as “humanist psychology.”

What is self-actualisation

Maslow developed a pyramid of six layers. The highest layer being “self-actualisation.” Self actualisation is living life to your full potential.

He agreed with Dr. David Hawkins that you have to meet your initial needs for food clothes and shelter before you can look at any form of self-development.

If you like, it’s a bit like the cynics guide to the law of attraction. It doesn’t work for everyone, and the reason it doesn’t work is that some people have to spend most of their time just simply providing security. They have no time or energy left over to develop themselves.

When we are full of shame or guilt, Our energy density is so low they cannot put any energy into raising their energy.

Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

Psychological Needs

These are at the bottom, and they are the most basic requirements for all living beings. They are the necessities of life. Water, air, and food. Every living creature will die if we are of these for long periods.

It also includes basic needs of temperature control or honest artists in human beings. The ability to excrete toxins. Sleep and rest and even sex. If you think about this, it’s all of the things we need to survive.

One-eighth of the world’s population do not have clean water in their homes or sufficient food to feed their families.

These psychological needs are sometimes not met when there is no lack. Some parents use food deprivation as a punishment. Later in life, you may be driven to seek food even when your body isn’t hungry.

The modern research studied the effects of the potato famines in Ireland in the 19th century. They have concluded that a significant reason why people are obese in Ireland as a result of this famine. People are literally born with an innate drive to eat. It’s as if once exposed to famine we can never forget its effects!

Safety Needs

Safety basically means shelter. It involves some form of shelter from the elements. It means clothes and a sense of the familiar.

According to Maslow if you do not have money to be able to pay for the most basic of shelter, then your safety needs are not being met. You also need the necessary clothing which has to be warm enough for the climate you live in. This does not mean clothes that you buy by choice but the clothes that you need to have by necessity. You also need to have sufficient money to be able to provide the mechanisms to get food. That means access to shops or markets to pay for the food and pay for the transport there and back.

Many adults have a sense of psychological insecurity. They have a dread that something catastrophic is going to happen.

Also when things change in life, you feel unsafe and insecure. Major traumatic events such as divorce, or widowhood can have this effect. It can also be caused by losing your job.

Meeting your safety needs implies that you have a level of control over the events in your life. For instance, if you lose your job, you have some money behind you to pay the bills until you find another one.

Love and Belonging

A sense of belonging initially starts in a family environment. As you grow older and go to school, then it expands to friends, to your church, social groups, and any activities in a group setting.

In an ideal world as a child, you will be surrounded by unconditional love. You will have felt loved and cherished by multitudes of people. This acceptance will have nurtured you and allowed you to become a mentally stable adult.

When you have had this, you were able to give this on conditional love to other youngsters who are in need of guidance. You do not need to be bolstered by other people.

In the real world, your parents probably did their best. They may have been too young, too pressurized by lack of money or too immature to have given you that unconditional love. On the other hand, they may have been deprived of that unconditional love themselves and not know how to show it to other people list of all the children.

This is one of the reasons why as adults many of us fear to be alone. We feel accepted in social groups.

Esteem

We achieve the fourth level when we can begin to reflect on, acknowledge and be proud of what we have accomplished. It is the level when people start not only to accept us but to praise us and recognize our competences. It implies a level of achievement and a level of status. Once we have reached this level, we have begun to arrive!

Levels of Self-Esteem Control Our Behaviours

The level of self esteem that we have in our lives influences all of our public behaviors. These are the behaviors that are witnessed by others. Most adults need to seek the approval of others. We need to justify and validate our behaviors. Quite often this is a result of feeling slighted in childhood. This is a feeling all of us of experience to lesser and greater degrees.

The majority of people who use Facebook or Instagram or any other form of social media on a daily basis are actually begging for this self esteem. What they are asking people who follow them is “look at how great I am” and “acknowledge how great I am.”

This is because we are our own harshest self critics. Many of us judge ourselves exceptionally harshly. We display behavior towards ourselves which just would not be acceptable if we were to behave that way to others.

We lack self-compassion. To some extent, this comes from the accumulation of all the judgments during our growing up years. Our parents, grandparents, friends, peers and virtually everyone we’ve ever met has judged us.

At some point, all of these judgments are lacking, and they have made the mark on our subconscious.

What Do These First Four Levels Mean?

These first four levels are known as deficit needs. We are motivated and driven if we do not at least get these first four levels balanced in our lives.

Maslow himself stated that you needed certain freedoms to accomplish these levels. They include freedom of speech. The ability to express ourselves openly and be heard. Another important aspect is the ability and freedom to access new information.

However, these freedoms are external freedoms we need to look inside at internal freedoms to create change.

Tomorrow we will discuss the top needs in the Maslow hierarchy.

Refine Your Core Values To Unlock your Full Potential.

Personal Core Values Refined

Yesterday we discussed how to start to identify your core values. Personal core values refined is part of a discussion which began with an explanation of our ego and has gone on on a daily basis since.

Look at the two columns, the importance of the value and the actual level that you practice it in your everyday life. Write about five sentences about the discrepancy between the two numbers.

Identifying this discrepancy is the first step to rediscover your core values. You have always had core values even if the knowledge of them is buried deep inside yourself. You may have forgotten or are not aware they exist. They have always existed. The ethical thing to do is to isolate your core values and to integrate them with your everyday actions.

Your core values will help you in every aspect of your everyday choices.

Look at the differences you have written above and think about the differences. If the difference is merely one point or even two points, then you can work towards it. It’s more than this then it is unlikely to make a reasonable core value.

Narrow down the core values to 5 different values. Lay the list aside for 24 hours and then come back to it. Think of the three core values that would make you sick to the stomach if you contradict the principles behind them.

Once you have done this, you need to verify if these are the correct core values. Ask yourself the following questions.

1. Conscious Choice
Do I consciously choose these beliefs after careful consideration of what the words mean? Have I looked up the definition in either an online dictionary or a dictionary?

2. Have I Considered the Alternatives?
Have I carefully considered the alternatives before rejecting them. Those that I have dismissed have I done so out of laziness?

3. Am I Prepared to Honour These Beliefs?
Are you happy with the choices you have made and feel that you have made these choices freely with adequate consideration?

4. Am I Willing to Publicly Affirm These Values
Am I secure enough in these values, to stand up and declare that I live by these rules?

5. Am I Ready to Live by These Beliefs?
Not only am I prepared to live with these beliefs but am I ready to act on these beliefs to change the way I live my life. These beliefs will become my values and need to be repeated consistently on a daily basis.

Finally, write down these values. These are the values you are prepared to live by and the values that will give you fulfillment in life. In fact, you may find living by these values will provide you with the only true fulfillment.

Fulfillment is defined here as achieving our deepest desires and fully realizing our potential. As I mentioned a few days ago after years of angst, I realized I was frightened of fulfilling my full potential.

By our own efforts

We create a sense of purpose for ourselves and having worked out that this is my greatest fear, the fear literally fell away. In fact, it is ridiculous to think that I may be frightened of fulfilling my potential.

We all want to fulfill who we really are without fear or a sense of hopelessness, or unworthiness or powerlessness. Some lucky people will achieve this in their 20s, but it is never too late. A lot of people go through life without change and staying in their comfort zone. Eventually, the pain of staying what you are will motivate you to realize that you are not satisfied with the status quo.

You have probably known this fact for a long time and have had the sense of dissatisfaction for ages. However, there is a difference knowing that something is wrong and having the courage to do something about it.

Eventually, most of us realize that to search for our own meaning we have to look deep within ourselves. This internal retrospection motivates us ultimately to make those changes necessary. Don’t beat yourself up if this process has taken years. It took years for me. You may know people who achieved it in days weeks or months. So what? This is your journey and no one else’s.

You have all the time in the world. Time is not your problem. To achieve your full potential, you need to bring balance into your life.

Looking inside yourself creates balance. Aspects you are searching for personal growth, learning, being healthy and also spiritualism. Developing insights into these areas all come from looking inwards.

Your ego will always force you to look outwards for satisfaction.

This journey is not a race against time or anything else. It is your journey, and in or respects it has been going on since the beginning of time and will continue indefinitely.

You have all the time you need to achieve your full potential. Your biggest enemy will be your ego. The ego always wants you to look externally for your satisfaction in life. It is trying to protect you, but it doesn’t live in the present. It cannot know that the things it is trying to protect you from more important when you were a child but are not necessarily important now.

It doesn’t want us to face our limiting beliefs or habitual thinking patterns, because in doing so it will force us to change our perspective on life. We would have to accept responsibility for all our actions.

Once you take this step the power of the ego will be reduced, and it will in time become redundant. Don’t make the mistake of ever thinking you can get rid of ego; you can’t it is part of your personality. However, you can minimize its importance.

The results of looking inwards ultimately mean that we feel joy, unconditional love, and gratitude for the life we lead. Because we have expanded our potential in the way, we think we are more open to new ideas and challenges. It is this falling away from limiting beliefs and opening our hearts that will allow us to fulfill our full potential.
